As a health and wellness organization, the IRSSS has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021 (and FNHA). We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees at IRSSS. This policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If selected for employment, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination by providing a copy of your BC Vaccination Card Passport with the QR code.

The Trauma Informed Cultural Support Worker (TICSW) will use their cultural and traditional knowledge and practises to support traumatized survivors and their families.

The TICSW must have a good grounding and understanding of responding to the impact of trauma. This includes emphasizing and providing physical, psychological, and emotional safety for everyone, and creating opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment through various cultural practises/methods. The TICSW will use a trauma-informed approach to support individuals, and families in their communities and personal lives.


  • Responds to and provides a trauma-informed cultural approach to support children, youth and families, in their personal life.
  • Provides referrals to additional counselling and professional, emotional and psychological support to former Indian residential school survivors and their families if required
  • Develop wellness plans
  • Facilitate and coordinate with other support services
  • Network with Regional support services and provide regular activity reports
  • May be required to facilitate Healing/Wellness and other Mental Health webinar or in person workshops
  • Refer to other agencies when appropriate


  • Knowledge of Effective Community Cultural Etiquette and Protocols
  • Knowledge of cultural healing methods/practises in responding to trauma (take or willing to take required training, ie iThought - Indigenous Focussing Orienting Therapy)
  • Trauma informed training and/or counseling experience with Indigenous clients
  • Social Work Degree or Social Service certificate and/or experience
  • Trauma informed and cultural safety training and/or counseling experience with Indigenous clients
  • Extensive working knowledge of the history and impacts of residential schooling Residential Schools and effective methods for working with survivors
  • As a health and wellness organization, we have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees. All employees must be double vaccinated.

 Additional Requirements:

  • Computer literacy, basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet
  • Knowledge of cultural methods/practises of healing in responding to trauma
  • Must be grounded and demonstrate a healthy personal wellness journey
