Jason Campbell
Board Director
With more than 20 years of experience in Indigenous leadership, governance, justice, community development, and organizational transformation, Jason Campbell brings a strong commitment to Indigenous self-determination, community well-being, and systems change. His career has spanned First Nations governments, justice services, post-secondary education, Indigenous organizations, and government.
Jason currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Westbank First Nation, providing senior executive leadership and supporting the Nation’s administration, governance, strategic priorities, programs, services, and organizational operations. His work continues to focus on strengthening Indigenous governance, building organizational capacity, advancing community priorities, and supporting effective relationships with government, industry, and other partners.
Previously, Jason served as Executive Director of Seabird Island Band, where he provided executive leadership across more than 50 programs and approximately 350 employees. During his tenure, he supported significant advances in Indigenous governance and jurisdiction, including Land Code, taxation, education, child and family services, membership, and election governance. He also led organizational transformation, strengthened administrative and human resource systems, advanced economic development, expanded the community land base, and developed strategic partnerships.
Jason's earlier career in Indigenous justice included more than a decade with Correctional Service Canada, where he worked alongside with Indigenous communities, justice institutions, and individuals returning to their home communities. Prior to this, he served with Stó:lō Service Agency – Qwi:qwelstóm, managing complex justice caseloads, facilitating healing circles, supporting respectful relationships programming, and collaborating with police, corrections, probation, and other agencies. These experiences provided him with a deep understanding of the impacts of colonial systems and the importance of culturally grounded approaches to justice, healing, accountability, and reintegration.
Jason previously served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Business at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he developed and delivered Indigenous business curriculum, supported Indigenous economic development, built community partnerships, and contributed to research and post-secondary programming.
His community and governance experience includes serving as a former elected Councillor of Seabird Island Band, Chair of Stó:lō Community Futures, a Director on the Lands Advisory Board, and a member of the UFV Indigenous Advisory Board and BC RCMP Indigenous Cultural Advisory Committee.
Jason holds an MBA from Simon Fraser University through its Indigenous Business Leadership Executive MBA program and has completed executive education in board oversight and strategy through the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for public service.
As a Director of the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, Jason brings a unique combination of executive leadership, Indigenous governance, justice-sector experience, community engagement, and institutional knowledge. He is committed to ensuring that Survivors, families, and communities remain at the centre of the work and that Indigenous approaches to healing, dignity, self-determination, and justice continue to guide the Society’s direction.
