Ama Sah, Jody di wyuu, Kitsumkalum di wil whatguu.
My name is Jody Okabe. I am a Two Spirit Indigiqueer person of Ts’msyen, Japanese, andFrench ancestry, and a member of Kitsumkalum. My family belongs to the House of Raven, W’aap K’oom, Ganhada Clan. I was raised on the territories of the Ts’msyen, Tse’Khene, and Lheidli T’enneh peoples, and I am currently a guest on the stolen, unceded, and occupied homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy ̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx ̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
My work is grounded in love, kinship, and community care. I am deeply committed to creating welcoming, inclusive and culturally safe spaces, particularly for our Two Spirit, trans, and gender diverse relatives. Over the past 15+ years, I have worked as a cultural wellness manager and cultural support worker across the fields of health care, education, land-based education, and community outreach. I have had the honour of supporting Elders, ceremonies, and medicine harvesting trips in partnership with local nations. I am a musician and facilitator and enjoy co-creating spaces of joy, healing, and connection. I offer smudging, songs, 1-1 emotional support, workshops and creative facilitation.
I look forward to supporting you and walking alongside you.
Sagayt k’uul g'oot / Together with heart,
Jody
